On the July 1 edition of AEW Dynamite this past week, high stakes were set for the following week’s Beach Break edition of the show as MJF will defend the AEW World Championship against Kenny Omega, with the added stipulation that if Omega loses, he will never challenge for the title ever again. It has now been learned how long AEW’s plans have been in the works for MJF vs. Omega.

It was noted this week that the match was originally scheduled for the AEW Redemption 2026 PPV, though the decision was made to bring this bout forwards to Dynamite in what was described as being a recent and late decision by AEW.

According to Fightful Select, AEW’s plans for this title match have been “in effect” for over three months “at the very least”. Back at the AEW Dynasty 2026 PPV, MJF cheated his way to defeating Omega in the main event for the AEW World Championship, with the aftermath seeing various promos and interactions between the likes of MJF, Kenny Omega, Will Ospreay, and more across the main event picture.
