WWE’s annual post-WrestleMania releases took place earlier this week, seeing notable names across Monday Night RAW, Friday Night SmackDown, and NXT let go from the company including Aleister Black, Zelina Vega, Kairi Sane, The Motor City Machine Guns, Apollo Crews, The Wyatt Sicks, Alba Fyre, and more. It has been revealed who made the call on the specific individuals who were released.
When it comes to who is selecting the names to be fired from WWE, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer has noted that it is Paul ‘Triple H’ Levesque who is the key decision-maker on this front. In response to a tweet which debated over why Triple H didn’t use his influence to halt TKO releasing certain names due to their prominence or current creative plans, Meltzer explained that the picking and choosing for released stars comes from Triple H himself.
“Nobody above Levesque is saying who to cut. Maybe Nick Khan, maybe not. Ari Emanuel isn't sitting there saying we have to fire Zelina and Kairi. By and large the decision maker, for good or for bad, here is Paul. It's like in other years where people blamed this person or that person when the decision was 100 percent Vince.”
Of course, the call to cut people is from the higher ups, but selecting particular wrestlers seems to come from WWE’s head of creative. Many have spoken out in support of this latest line-up of released superstars, though WWE’s Jackie Redmond deleted a tweet which pushed the idea of bringing back Kairi Sane.
