Ring Of Honor held their annual Death Before Dishonor event last night, airing out of the Esports Stadium in Arlington, Texas, which is acting as the home of AEW Collision & ROH for the next several weeks. It was a big night for ROH, with new champions crowned and several physical matches.
In the main event of the evening, Mark Brisoce outlasted Roderick Strong for the ROH World Championship in a bloody and physical encounter. The match began with Briscoe in control, dominating Strong around the ringside area, but the Undisputed Kingdom member got back into the match. Briscoe used his Redneck Kung-Fu whilst Strong hit his array of backbreakers as they battled back and forth until Briscoe was sent into the ring post and a sea of blood poured from his head. This put Briscoe at a disadvantage, as he battled out of a Boston Crab and fought his way back into the match. The end of the bout saw the Undisputed Kingdom interfere, though Kyle O’Reilly and Tomohiro Ishii arrived to even the score, allowing Briscoe to win the match.
Athena’s reign as ROH Women’s World Champion extended even further after a 20 minute battle with Queen Aminata. Athena dominated a lot of the early portion, but Aminata held her own, using her size to gain an advantage. Hard strikes, big moves, near-falls, and tired exchanges resulted in a physical and strenuous battle. Billie Starkz tried hard to interfere, but was thwarted by Red Velvet, leading to belief that Aminata was set to pull off the unthinkable. However, Lexy Nair threw Athena a microphone to nail Aminata and win the bout.
Two new champions were crowned at the PPV, as Lee Moriarty defeated Wheeler Yuta for the ROH Pure Championship, and Red Velvet outlasted Billie Starkz by using Starkz’ own fake injury tactic to win the ROH Women’s TV Championship.
