Bayley To Defend WWE Women's Championship Against Meiko Satomura

Bayley will defend her title during WWE's Japan tour

Amidst the news of Meiko Satomura’s planned retirement from professional wrestling, which was announced by Tokyo Sports yesterday, revealing that her final match is slated for spring 2025, another big announcement has been made too.

The former NXT UK Women’s Champion will be hoping to get her hands on some gold once again as she has challenged Bayley for the WWE Women’s Championship. Bayley & Satomura teamed up at recent WWE house shows in Japan, and after their tag team match alongside Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill against Damage CTRL & Tiffany Stratton, Satomura took to the mic to challenge Bayley on Saturday night’s show. Aside from one match last month, Satomura wrestled her first match in over a year during WWE’s Japan tour this week - her last WWE match came in March 2023 against Roxanne Perez as she challenged for the NXT Women’s Championship.

Bayley spoke on X following this announcement, stating her honour at this first-time ever matchup against the legend.

“Tomorrow night will be an absolute honor.

Feels like I’m having a Wrestlemania match 1 week before Summerslam.”

Bayley is set to defend her WWE Women’s Championship against Nia Jax at SummerSlam.
