WWE have announced the location and date of Royal Rumble 2019, in a statement from the
official website:
'WWE today announced that Chase Field in Phoenix will host Royal Rumble on Sunday, Jan. 27, 2019. This marks WWE’s debut at Chase Field and the first time that the Royal Rumble has ever been held at a baseball stadium.'
Chase Field is listed as holding a capacity of approximately 48,000 for baseball games, but it's unknown how many it will be able to hold once WWE have re-configured the stadium for a pro wrestling show.
During the MLB season it hosts the Arizona Diamondbacks, and also the annual NCAA Cactus Bowl game.
Although this is the first time the Royal Rumble will be held in a baseball stadium, it won't be the first major WWE pay per view in such a venue. WrestleMania XIX took place at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington, home of the Seattle Mariners.
WWE have also announced three other Phoenix shows over Royal Rumble weekend, all taking place in the Talking Stick Resort Arena.
'In addition, as part of Royal Rumble Weekend, Phoenix will host the following events at Talking Stick Resort Arena:
NXT TakeOver (Saturday, Jan. 26)
Monday Night Raw (Monday, Jan. 28)
SmackDown LIVE (Tuesday, Jan. 29)
Additional details, including ticket availability and travel packages, will be announced in the near future.'
