RVD was originally supposed to get physical in NXT

RVD was a special guest at NXT’s recent visit to the 2300 Arena, hosting an ECW-themed show at the former home of ECW. The WWE Hall Of Famer didn’t get physical though, instead remaining simply as a presence at ringside during a match between Je’Von Evans and Wes Lee. Given RVD’s recent matches in the likes of AEW, some expected the former ECW & WWE Champion to mix it up with some of NXT’s current day talents, but that wasn’t the case.
Speaking on his 1 Of A Kind With RVD podcast, he revealed that there was a change in plans regarding him getting physically involved, hinting that it came down to his own well-being and health. However, he stated that he would be back in the mix at some point.
“More time is needed to get more information. But basically, I think that you would not be wrong if you thought that maybe there was some plans that got changed, and if so, that it was done for the betterment of me and for my well-being. Let me just leave it there for now. I will definitely talk more about this when I have more to talk about. Little early right now though. I wanted to wrestle too. I was really bummed. I will be back, too. I will be back, so there’s that.”
RVD noted that he felt very welcome being in NXT, and was looking forward to unveiling new ring gear in the future on the brand. It was recently reported that NXT were eyeing up a yearly ECW-themed event going forwards.
