Sabu Says John Cena Was 'Better Than Everybody Said He Was'

Sabu had nothing but praise for John Cena

One of the first orders of business for Sabu after signing for WWE in the summer of 2006 was a brief feud with John Cena.

The two had a match on a WWE vs. ECW Head to Head special (which ended via disqualification), before the rivalry ended in an Extreme Lumberjack Match at the Vengeance pay-per-view which was won by Cena.

During a recent appearance on Stories with Brisco and Bradshaw, Sabu was asked about his experience wrestling 'The Face That Runs the Place', with the ECW icon praising Cena for both his talent and backstage demeanour:

"Oh yeah, he was better than everybody said he was and he was more gracious than I could imagine, but he was very good. I thought he was very good," said Sabu.

During the same interview, the former ECW World Champion revealed that he requires knee and shoulder replacements. Despite needing those procedures, Sabu - who last wrestled in 2021 - is looking to have his final match this year, most likely against long-time associate Rob Van Dam:

"I'm hopefully setting up for my final match. I want to do a final match maybe in July or later. It's probably going to be against Van Dam. I heard Van Dam say something that he wanted to have a barbed wire match for my last match. I said I would rather have a regular match. I want to have one of my better matches. The barbed wire match is a gimmick. The gimmick is my final match. That's the gimmick," Sabu said.

Sabu had previously said he wanted to face AEW star HOOK in his final match.
