Professional wrestling legend Sabu's planned retirement match is in doubt after scheduled opponent Joey Janela underwent surgery.

The former ECW World Heavyweight Champion was booked against the 'Bad Boy' for Joey Janela's Spring Break 9 on Friday, April 18.

However, Janela recently had surgery to repair a torn bicep, raising questions about whether the match will actually happen.

On X, Janela wrote:

"Despite my untimely injury and what that might mean for the scheduled main event of Spring Break 9, I'll be working hard to make this the greatest independent spectacle of all time! Who wants a match announcement? It will make feel better after leaving the doctors to see some positive commotion for my show!" When a fan responded that he wanted to see Sabu wrestle long-time rival/partner Rob Van Dam on the card, Janela responded that:

"If I'm not wrestling on the show Sabu won't be wrestling on the show, as simple as that. Even if I'd have to create a new Joey Janela spectacle show for summer. That match belongs to me and I don't deserve to have it taken from me. I've sacrificed too much not to be selfish this time."

Janela is set to present Sabu with his Indie Wrestling Hall of Fame plaque at GCW The Coldest Winter 3 on March 1. Sabu no-showed his induction ceremony last year.
