Sabu's legendary professional wrestling career will come to an end over WrestleMania 41 weekend.

Joey Janela defeated Masato Tanaka at The People vs. GCW from the Hammerstein Ballroom on Sunday night. Following the match, the lights went out and a career retrospective for Sabu aired before the ECW legend appeared behind Janela.

Janela then challenged Sabu to face him at Joey Janela's Spring Break 9 in what will be Sabu's retirement match. The match will be held on Friday, April 18 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Sabu stated in 2024 that Game Changer Wrestling wanted to hold his retirement match in January 2025, which is assumed to be at The People vs. GCW. Sabu noted he wasn't going to be ready for the event, however, and instead wanted to retire in Las Vegas.

Sabu has been wrestling since 1985 and he has worked for the likes of Extreme Championship Wrestling, WWE, AEW, TNA, WCW, and NJPW over his long career. He is primarily associated with ECW, where he had two reigns as ECW World Heavyweight Champion and a classic programme with Rob Van Dam.

Sabu has not wrestled since July 2021.
