Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens Pay Tribute To PWG, Win Undisputed Tag Team Championships At WWE WrestleMania 39

Sami Zayn & Kevin Owens win the Undisputed Tag Team Championships at WWE WrestleMania 39 whist paying tribute to PWG

The first cracks in The Bloodline have emerged, after Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens toppled The Usos to win the Undisputed WWE Tag Team Championships at WWE WrestleMania 39 Night One and finally break their ironclad grip on the WWE tag scene.

For Owens and Zayn, headlining WrestleMania was the culmination of their long careers, with both men paying tribute to their old stomping ground Pro Wrestling Guerrilla, featuring the PWG logo on their tights, with Owens also featuring a tribute to PWG head Super Dragon on his shorts.

It was no easy feat, with Jey dominating Sami for the opening portions of the bout before Kevin Owens was unleashed, but even Owens found himself on the end of a licking, as The Usos used their tag savvy to assert their control on the bout.

Zayn paid tribute to the late great El Generico with an apron BRAINBUSTAAAAH, and Owens busted out a gorgeous Swanton, but again The Usos absorbed it and regrouped, unleashing a bevvy of superkicks on both men as they looked to retain their titles. A 1D attempt on Zayn was thwarted by Owens, but ‘The Ones’ regrouped to plant ‘The Prizefighter’ through the announce table with a double chokeslam. A 1D on Zayn seemed to have it all wrapped up, but Zayn became the first person to kick out of The Uso’s finisher as the crowd went wild.

Despite his heart, Zayn was on dream street with an emotional Jey Uso berating and teeing off on his former Uce, even nailing Zayn with a Helluva Kick of his own. All this did was fire Sami up, launching Jey into the corner with an Exploder suplex, before Owens tagged in and ran wild, but a Stunner on Jey could only get a two.

This was Zayn’s story to finish though, and after Owens kicked out after a double Uso Superfly Splash and planted Jey with an avalanche Fisherman’s Suplex, Zayn tagged in to boot Jey’s head into Row Z with a trio of Helluva Kicks for the win as Owens took Jimmy down with a stunner.

For Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens, this is the first taste of tag gold for both men since joining WWE, although Owens did previously hold the PWG tag team championships with Sami’s hero El Generico, as well as the ROH tag titles.

After holding the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships for over 620 days, and the Raw titles for  over 310 days, The Usos leave WrestleMania empty handed, and will have to face the wrath of Roman Reigns.
