Santos Escobar Confirms Rey Mysterio Suffered A Concussion In Their WWE SmackDown Match

Rey's fellow LWO member confirms the nature of the Hall of Famer's injury.

The meeting between LWO members Rey Mysterio and Santos Escobar on the July 28 edition of WWE SmackDown didn't go exactly as planned.

The match ended prematurely when it was ruled that Mysterio, who appeared to suffer some sort of injury, could no longer compete.

Escobar has since revealed that the masked man suffered a mild concussion in the bout, confirming previous reports

Speaking with Steve Fall (for WrestlingNews.co), Escobar said:

"The show that you got is the show that it was gonna be. I believe that it is important to present a good show and I believe that was the case that night. Rey and I went hard at it. That's what we agreed upon. We have a very long relationship. You know, we have a bond. And when you have that, you go hard. That's what happens when you go hard. I'm just glad that he had a small mild concussion. But he came back hard. And then well, you know what happened a couple of weeks after the fact"

Though Santos won the match and thus a shot at then-United States Champion Austin Theory, it was actually Mysterio who ended up walking away with the gold, replacing Escobar (who had been attacked twice by Theory before their scheduled match) on the August 11 episode of SmackDown.
