Scrapped Pitch For Rey Mysterio WWE Heel Turn Revealed

A pitch for a Rey Mysterio heel turn in WWE was scrapped

Rey Mysterio is one of the most beloved WWE stars of all time, with the legendary luchador wrestling as a babyface in the organisation since joining the company in 2002. That doesn’t mean pitches haven't been made for Mysterio to turn heel in WWE, though.

During an appearance on Insight with Chris Van Vliet, the former WWE Champion revealed how he pitched a heel turn on son Dominik, but is glad it was scrapped:

"I remember bringing it up one time when Dom and I were working together, I brought it up to Vince and it was brief. Like maybe I turn on Dom and we continue with something along the ways. But getting feedback from some of my colleagues, like no, you’re the babyface that could never be a heel. Like you're Ricky Steamboat, nobody can ever see you as a heel, I don't think they would buy into it. I'm kind of glad that I listened and that they didn't listen to me. Because the best thing that could happen is for Dom to become the heel and be the evil one," Rey Mysterio said.

Mysterio briefly worked heel during the latter days of WCW, with the unmasked ‘Rey Rey’ aligned with Konnan, Eddie Guerrero, and Billy Kidman as the Filthy Animals, but even then they were more tweeners than out-and-out villains.

Regardless of his status as a face or heel, Rey recently revealed that he wants WWE to run a PLE in Mexico.
