Scrapped Plans For Mick Foley To Make AEW Debut Revealed
Mick Foley vs. MJF almost happened in AEW
Aug 29, 2024
Mick Foley was close to having his final pro wrestling match in All Elite Wrestling.
Foley revealed earlier this year that he was planning to come out of retirement for one last match around his 60th birthday in June 2025. Foley even began training in the ring for his eventual return but he ultimately scrapped any plans to come out of retirement after he suffered what was believed to be a concussion.
The former WWE Champion addressed possible plans to come out of retirement at the Nickel City Comic-Con and Foley revealed he likely would have worked a six-week programme with AEW's MJF that would have led to Foley's final match.
"Man, when I was thinking of having that last match, I'll tell you what, when I announced that intention, there were no shortage of people from every promotion reaching out to me and one guy I probably would have gone with because he'd clearly done some thinking about it and lined out six great weeks of TV was MJF," Foley stated.
"We didn't take a photo together because we didn't wanna ruin the secret meeting but, I heard what he had to say, I really liked it. I had no doubt that he would have pulled it off perfectly and you know, he's so good and in his prime that he could have worked around my weaknesses and played to my strengths and I think we could have done something pretty cool. MJF. Final answer. Take that, Matt Cardona (Foley laughed)."
Mick Foley hasn't wrestled since the 2012 WWE Royal Rumble. He hasn't had a singles match since he faced Ric Flair in a 2010 TNA match.
