CM Punk's fourth reign as World Heavyweight Champion came to an end after just over five minutes at WWE SummerSlam.

Punk defeated Gunther in the main event of SummerSlam to win the World Heavyweight Title, connecting with two Go To Sleeps after Gunther had been busted open. A tearful Punk celebrated with the Big Gold Belt, but the broadcast suddenly panned to the titantron and "Burn it Down" filled MetLife Stadium.

Seth Rollins walked out on crutches and sporting a knee brace alongside Paul Heyman, but as Rollins looked set to walk away, he removed his knee brace and ran to the ring. Punk tried to connect with a Go To Sleep, but Rollins avoided it and followed up by battering Punk over and over again with the Money in the Bank briefcase.

With Punk down, Rollins cashed in his Money in the Bank contract and connected with a Stomp for the pinfall victory, becoming a two-time World Heavyweight Champion in the process.

Seth Rollins had not wrestled since an injury angle during his match with LA Knight on the July 12 edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event. The status of the injury was unknown, however, with reports varying from Rollins suffered a legitimate injury at SNME to it was simply an angle so it would be a shock when he cashed in at SummerSlam with the idea he and Paul Heyman had outsmarted everyone.
