WWE have officially announced that Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship will take place at Royal Rumble 2022 on January 29.

Seen as a foregone conclusion by the majority of WWE fans, the match was hinted at on WWE TV, with Seth Rollins openly laughing in Reigns' face on the January 7 edition of SmackDown. However, on last night’s edition of WWE RAW, Rollins cut a promo about the upcoming match, saying he can’t wait to take on Roman and beat him.

WWE later officially confirmed the match was taking place via their Twitter feed, after a RAW which saw Doudrop win the opportunity to face WWE RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch at the event.

This will be the first singles match between Reigns and Rollins since October 2019, as well as the first time the two will have clashed over the Universal Title in singles action, having both been involved in the Universal Championship fatal four-way on RAW in August 2016, when Kevin Owens walked away with the title.
