After outlasting Damian Priest, Shinsuke Nakamura and Finn Balor on the Monday Night Raw side of the World Heavyweight Championship bracket, Seth Rollins nailed down his place at Night of Champions 2023 to challenge for the new gold. On last night’s SmackDown, his opponent was revealed.

AJ Styles and Bobby Lashley emerged victorious in their respective triple threat matches, with Styles coming out on top in the main event of the night to earn his place in the World Heavyweight Title bout against Rollins. This will be the first time in about a year that these two men have had a singles match.

Despite the new version of “Big Gold” being set to be a Raw championship, it was revealed that wrestlers from both brands would fight for the chance to be crowned as the new champion, so if Styles wins the tournament he would be expected to go over to the red brand. Styles hasn’t been a world champion in WWE since 2018, and Rollins hasn’t since all the way back in 2019.
