Shane McMahon Returns To WWE At WrestleMania 39, Immediately Gets Injured

McMahon makes a surprise return, but it goes awry

Shane McMahon made a surprise return to WWE at WrestleMania 39 on Sunday night at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles.

McMahon's return took place during a segment where guest hosts The Miz and Snoop Dogg revealed the attendance for WrestleMania's second night. Miz then openly took exception to Snoop Dogg putting him in an unadvertised match with Pat McAfee last night, only for Snoop to do so again, pitting him against the returning Shane.

Shortly after the impromptu match started, however, McMahon appeared to injure his knee on a leapfrog. Improvising, Snoop Dogg took over the match, punching Miz out before pinning him following a People's Elbow.

Shane was tended to by referee Jessika Carr and a trainer. It was later confirmed that Shane tore his quadriceps.

McMahon's return comes over one year after he was fired shortly after the 2022 Royal Rumble, reportedly after clashing with several individuals during the planning and execution of the men's Rumble match. He had returned to the company six years earlier, after leaving WWE in 2009 to pursue other business endeavors. During his 2016-22 run, McMahon was an authority figure on the SmackDown brand, and wrestled occasionally in high-profile bouts.
