Shawn Michaels Details Why WWE Dream Match With The Rock Never Happened

HBK admits "everyone knows the story of me being difficult."

In a recent interview with Sportsmail's Alex McCarthy, WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels offered a possible explanation as to why he never had a big singles match with The Rock. HBK stated:

"Everyone knows the story of me being difficult, having a huge change of heart and coming back in 2002. I was always open to it but it didn't work out. He became an incredibly busy man and famous guy and everything else, and I would imagine his priorities changed quite a bit. [...] The things he wanted to do I think he did, and I respect that."

Michaels and The Rock have never competed in any configuration of match together, whether it be a singles bout or multi-man stipulation. HBK has acted as special guest referee for two of Rock's matches with Triple H - the first on an August 1999 episode of SmackDown, and the second an hour-long Iron Man Match at Judgement Day 2000.

HBK is now head of creative for the NXT brand, and recently became involved in a storyline with Grayson Waller. A match was teased between the pair, but Michaels ultimately brought Johnny Gargano back to the brand to wrestle in his place.
