Sheamus Blasts WWE Creative Over Post-Clash At The Castle Booking

Sheamus takes aim at WWE creative over his booking post-Clash at the Castle

Sheamus has blasted WWE creative over how the company handled his booking following Clash at the Castle.

The Celtic Warrior challenged GUNTHER for the Intercontinental Championship at the first UK pay-per-view in 19 years and both men battered each other for 19 minutes until Der Ring General picked up the win. Despite losing the match, the fans inside the Principality Stadium were appreciative of Sheamus' effort as applause filled the arena after he got back to his feet, and the match is remembered as one of the best of 2022.

Following the pay-per-view, Sheamus lost to GUNTHER one more time before he transitioned to a programme with The Bloodline, taking on the faction inside WarGames at Survivor Series alongside his Brawling Brutes faction-mates Butch and Ridge Holland, as well as Drew McIntyre and Kevin Owens. Sheamus then moved back to GUNTHER and he was involved in the Intercontinental Title picture until WrestleMania 39 when he unsuccessfully challenged for the title once again in a Triple Threat with Drew McIntyre.

Sheamus eventually winning the Intercontinental Championship looked to be the natural end of his programme with GUNTHER but Imperium have since been moved to Monday Night Raw, meaning the 45-year-old is unlikely to win the Intercontinental Championship anytime soon. Having remained on SmackDown, Sheamus has instead been in a programme with Austin Theory that has seen him twice unsuccessfully challenge for the United States Title.

Speaking with the Daily Star, Sheamus seemed less than impressed with his WWE booking post-Clash at the Castle, to put it mildly, and he was critical of WWE creative, saying that he thought his involvement in WarGames was "s**t."

After being asked if he was upset about not winning at Clash at the Castle, Sheamus stated:

"I'm not upset about that at all. I felt it was great, it was just the type of character Sheamus is, all fists and elbows. What I was upset about and what really bothered me was the creative after that. I came out of that with so much organic momentum, and it was just wasted. It didn't go anywhere.

"It was a dead end, just like with WrestleMania. Drew went away because he was injured, but I was ready to go and then just nothing. There were no avenues and nowhere to go and that's frustrating. I did the WarGames thing [after Clash at the Castle] but that was s**t - that's how I felt, though others might have felt differently."

While he is yet to win the Intercontinental Title, Sheamus still wants to get his hands on the belt, admitting that he would like to retire as Intercontinental Champion.

"The journey is just as important, that story of me trying to get my hands on the title as it's the one title I haven't got. It's still a fresh story. Even with GUNTHER and Drew's match at SummerSlam, people are still mentioning me because it's still my story. I'd definitely like to retire with [the title], but that stuff is out of my control. I can just do what I can do," he added.
