Part of the reason behind Trish Stratus vs. Becky Lynch being pulled from WWE SummerSlam has been revealed
Aug 3, 2023
SummerSlam was originally set to have more matches than currently advertised, with plans reportedly calling for Trish Stratus and Becky Lynch to settle their feud at the August 5 pay-per-view in Detroit. Instead, the two rivals will face off on the August 14 edition of Monday Night Raw in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.
Rhea Ripley vs. Raquel Rodriguez for the Women's World Championship was also still internally on the card for SummerSlam as of last week but that match has yet to be made official due to a storyline knee injury for Rodriguez. If or when WWE will make the match official for SummerSlam is unknown.
Speaking about the possible Women's World Title match, Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that part of the reason behind matches being cut from SummerSlam is WWE has a time limit on the show which they can't go over.
"It's as soon as they clear her [Raquel Rodriguez]. They could clear her the day of the show and then throw that in there. But there is a time constraint. I was told that was part of the reason some of these matches that were originally earmarked for the show are off because they have a time limit on the show, which I'm going to guess is three-and-a-half to four hours, and they didn't want to shortchange matches, basically, as far as time. That is part of it. With Ripley and Rodriguez, I don't know one way or the other when it will be because they left it open. This is storyline cleared obviously, but if she gets storyline cleared they can do the surprise match the day of the show," Meltzer stated.
The women's locker room doesn't appear to be happy about Stratus vs. Lynch being pulled from SummerSlam, with Rhea Ripley liking tweets on Twitter/X calling for WWE to "treat your women better."
