The full extent of Shota Umino's injury has been revealed.
The NJPW star has revealed on X that he has suffered a fractured hip. He is also dealing with a strained disc in his lower back but 'Shooter' believes he will still be able to compete in G1 Climax 34, which gets underway on July 20.
Umino tweeted (translated): "I had a hip fracture and a strained disc it's the L4-5 disc. I also had an MRI done. I'll somehow get back to Tokyo tomorrow. I will definitely be back by G1. I'm going to take a break for a while. Sorry."
Umino sustained the injury at the AEW Rampage taping on June 12 during his match with Rocky Romero. The 27-year-old was scheduled to be in action at New Japan Soul on Sunday but he was pulled from the event due to his injury.
Umino will be in the A Block for G1 Climax 34 along with Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, Shingo Takagi, SANADA, Zack Sabre Jr, Great-O-Khan, Gabe Kidd and Pro Wrestling NOAH's Jake Lee.
Rampage was Umino's AEW singles debut, coming a couple of weeks after he made his AEW TV in-ring debut in the Casino Gauntlet on the May 29 episode of Dynamite.
