Friday Night SmackDown could potentially begin to look a little different in 2025, as there has been some shake-up at the top of the ladder when it comes to the creative team.

It has been reported by Mike Johnson of PWInsider that WWE Hall Of Famer Road Dogg Brian James has been named as the new Co-Lead writer for the blue brand, working alongside fellow Co-Lead John Swikata.

This brings Road Dogg back to a very familiar position in WWE, as he was previously made Lead Writer on Friday Night SmackDown after beginning to work as a writer all the way back in 2016. Following WrestleMania 35 in 2019, Road Dogg stepped down from his position on the creative team, and eventually was released from the company during 2022 cuts. He stepped into a new role several months later, becoming the Senior Vice President of Live Events, replacing the exiting Jeff Jarrett in that position.

This now means there are three members of D-Generation X in positions of control in WWE - Shawn Michaels writing NXT, Road Dogg writing SmackDown, and Triple H overseeing all as the Chief Content Officer - who would’ve thought?
