Due to the show taking place on the Fourth of July - a holiday in the United States - WWE taped this week's SmackDown following Monday's episode of Raw in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

July 4 will feature the return of a top WWE star as Drew McIntyre interrupted Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton during the opening segment of the SmackDown taping. McIntyre tried to goad Rhodes and Orton into turning on each other before he ate an RKO from Orton.

McIntyre later appeared in a backstage segment with SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis, and he secured a match with Randy Orton for the July 12 edition of Saturday Night's Main Event.

Drew McIntyre had been off WWE TV since the May 24 episode of Saturday Night's Main Event when he lost a Steel Cage Match to Damian Priest, during which he was written off TV with a conchairto. It was reported shortly after that McIntyre would be taking time off to heal up from injuries he had been working through.
