During their time away from WWE TV from May to December 2020, Steve Cutler and Wesley Blake continued to pitch ideas in the hopes of returning to SmackDown.

One of those ideas Cutler revealed to the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast was for him and Blake to be a modern version of The APA.

"We were out for about eight months and [Wesley] Blake and I were pitching ideas like I said, just week after week. I pitched an idea of us as a new version of APA. where we kind of wanted to still be us, but we'd be doing things in the back and then we're pitching ideas for Farooq and Bradshaw to even be there and obviously nothing came of it but just to get - you got the legends coming on TV at that time and just getting better airtime for having no crowds. I was [like], 'Alright, how can we make this work? How can we make this work?' And just nothing was sticking to them and it was keeping us off TV," Cutler said.

Cutler and Blake eventually returned to SmackDown as King Corbin's Knights Of The Lone Wolf, but they were pulled from TV one month later after Cutler tested positive for COVID-19. Cutler was then released by the company in February and Blake was let go in April.
