Surprise Within WWE Over Baron Corbin Winning United States Title At SummerSlam

Baron Corbin defeating Trick Williams for the WWE United States Championship at SummerSlam was met with surprise by the fans inside Minneapolis' US Bank Stadium, and they weren't the only ones who were shocked.

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has reported that the decision to have Corbin win the United States Title from Williams came together recently, and a number of people backstage in WWE were surprised by the late change of plans.

During the development of Williams' custom WWE United States Title belt and the unveiling of the strap in July, there was no expectation within WWE that Trick would end up losing the belt just three weeks later.

Following the loss, Williams could be set to move up the card on the WWE main roster. Williams himself noted on ESPN Houston that he wasn't sure if he would pursue the United States Title or CM Punk's Undisputed WWE Championship. Reports, however, have noted that Williams is under consideration within WWE as an early pick to win the 2026 Men's Money in the Bank Ladder Match.

The Money in the Bank pay-per-view is taking place later in the year than has been the tradition, with the show taking place on October 10 as opposed to between May and July, which has been the case for the previous 16 iterations of the event.
