The trial of former WWE star Ted DiBiase Jr. has been delayed.

PWInsider reported that the Mississippi Southern District Court approved a federal government motion to delay the trial on June 7. He had been scheduled to stand trial on June 20.

The government filed the motion last month, stating, "the discovery in this case is extensive and additional time is needed by both sides to review the case and to prepare for trial or negotiate a plea. The government submits that the ends of justice that will be served by taking such action outweigh the best interests of the public and the defendant in a speedy trial".

The one-time WWE Tag Team Champion was arrested in April and charged with one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and to commit theft concerning programmes receiving federal funds, six counts of wire fraud, two counts of theft concerning programmes receiving federal funds and four counts of money laundering.

If found guilty on all counts, he faces 45 years imprisonment and a million-dollar fine. DiBiase had previously pleaded not guilty to the charges and was released on an unsecured $10,000 bond.

The 40-year-old is alleged to have entered into sham contracts for services neither he nor his companies provided and then used the funds to make expensive purchases, including buying a house, a boat and a vehicle.

The government are seeking to recoup the money. DiBiase and his wife, Kristen, signed an agreement to forfeit their property on March 7, allowing US Marshals to sell it and recoup some of the money that way.

It was also revealed during the court hearing that DiBiase had tested positive for Adderall and marijuana on the morning of his arrest. His lawyer claimed the positive marijuana test was because his client used hemp oil and ingested a CBD gummy. DiBiase uses Adderall due to being diagnosed with ADHD, though he did not have a valid prescription at the time of his test (and was instead using his brother's).
