After several years of delays, the trial of Ted DiBiase Jr. has been pushed back once again. The Mississippi Southern District Court has ruled DiBiase's new trial date is January 6, 2026, PWInsider has reported.
DiBiase's trial was scheduled to commence on August 19, but attorneys for the former WWE Superstar filed a motion on July 2 to delay the start of the criminal trial. The motion argued that, while DiBiase has been investigated since 2020, prosecutors waited until over two years after his indictment and 60 days before the trial was set to begin to provide the defence with almost 48 hours of video footage. The defence has claimed the footage shows DiBiase carried out a substantial amount of work under the alleged 'sham' contracts he entered into, and the attorneys requested additional time to go through the footage 'in the interest of justice.'
DiBiase was arrested in April 2023 on one count of conspiracy to commit wire fraud and to commit theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, six counts of wire fraud, two counts of theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, and four counts of money laundering. He has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
It is alleged that DiBiase, through two companies he owned and managed, entered into sham contracts to defraud the state of Mississippi out of money that was intended for families in need. Authorities have claimed DiBiase accepted payment for services he did not carry out and instead used the money to make personal purchases, including buying a boat and vehicles, and making a down payment on a house.
