Card is always subject to change in pro wrestling, but for All Elite Wrestling the card usually doesn’t get announced until the day of the show.
That’s the case for TV tapings anyway, with AEW often booking one or two matches ahead of time, whilst keeping the rest of the card under wraps until the day of broadcast. As to why AEW announce this way, Tony Khan revealed on Twitter/X it’s all a simple matter of engagement.
Taking part in a live Q&A session on the site, Khan was asked about match announcements and why AEW promotes the way it does, to which Khan said the following:
“A lot of times, wrestling companies will make some announcements on the day of the show because they get engagement,” Khan said. “It’s a way to get you talking about the show, get you interested in the show.”
Khan is noted for his enthusiastic use of social media surrounding AEW TV events, and stated such last-minute announcements serve as a hook for potential viewers to let them know something big could happen on the show:
“Typically, those match announcements are the most engagement you’re gonna get on the day of the show. I think they do very, very well,” Khan stated.
