The Rock has responded to a claim that he threw Triple H under the bus by failing to appear at WrestleMania 41 and then going on the Pat McAfee Show to say he would have booked the finish of Cody Rhodes vs. John Cena differently.
The expectation amongst fans was that Dwayne Johnson would appear during the main event of WrestleMania 41 to help John Cena defeat Cody Rhodes for the Undisputed WWE Title, and those expectations were only elevated after Travis Scott got involved in the match.
The Rock, however, revealed on the Pat McAfee Show this week that he decided not to appear at 'Mania because he wanted the spotlight to be solely on John Cena vs. Cody Rhodes. Johnson also admitted that he would have "finessed" the WrestleMania 41 main event finish differently, and he understood why fans thought he was going to appear at the show after Travis Scott showed up.
The Rock's comments prompted a long rant from Dave LaGreca on Busted Open Radio, during which he claimed that The Rock threw WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H under the bus.
"Now that everybody is b*tching and moaning about the end of WrestleMania 41, The Rock is going to go on Pat McAfee, who has the biggest show in sports talk radio. You're gonna go on his show and say, 'Yeah, I would have done it differently. Yeah, I would have adjusted some things.' Nice to hear from you now, pal. It’s over. So now that’s everybody’s bitching and complaining, ‘Yeah, I would have done it differently.’ Really? You talk about a Monday morning quarterback, that’s a Tuesday morning quarterback! Thanks pal," LaGreca shouted.
"Didn’t make yourself available, didn’t show up at WrestleMania, but now I’m gonna say, ‘Yeah, I would have done things differently.’ You talk about completely throwing Triple H under the bus, that’s exactly what The Rock did. You know what you say if you’re The Rock, ‘You know what? I thought they did an awesome job.’ Or you know what, don’t say anything at all. But by saying that, you just threw Triple H under the bus," he continued.
"If you’re not gonna be there and you didn’t take part of it, then you shouldn’t say anything about it. Now, if he was part of the creative process and he was there, he could say, ‘I think we, we!’ because he’s part of the f*cking company. No, but he doesn’t mind saying, ‘I’, ‘I would have done things differently’, ‘I would have adjusted things.’ He loves saying ‘we’ when it’s successful, but when it’s not, he’s gonna be like ‘I would’ve’, ‘I’, ‘I’, ‘I’, ‘I’, ‘I.'"
The Rock has since responded to LaGreca's rant on Instagram, writing:
"Hi Dave, the business is a complete work. Always has been, always will be. Every aspect of it. Every match. Every interview. Please join me, Cody, Cena, Brian and the rest of us for our creative discussions so you can expand your perspective. Until then, stop ranting, it’s not healthy my friend. Enjoy the show. Ps, tell Bubba I have Grand Marnier and hush puppies for all of us."
When The Rock will next appear on WWE TV is unknown. He did note on the Pat McAfee Show, however, that he is planning to eventually go back to the storyline of The Final Boss wanting Cody Rhodes' soul.
