The Undertaker: I Was Kind Of Boxed In With My WWE Character
'Taker retired at Survivor Series 2020
Nov 25, 2021
The Undertaker has discussed his current role as an ambassador for WWE and believes it is time for him to put away the gimmick that worked so well for him over 30 years.
Mark 'Undertaker' Calaway retired from in-ring competition at Survivor Series 2020, after three decades as The Dead Man, although recently brought his famous gimmick out for the WrestleMania 38 pre-sale party in Dallas, Texas.
While 'Taker was happy to don his old hat and robe again, Calaway feels he wouldn't have been able to do those sorts of roles - or his ambassadorial work - purely as The Phenom, and is happy to work with what he has when not in character.
Speaking on WWE's The Bump, 'Taker said about his current role with the company: "It’s different, It’s fun. That Undertaker character, obviously it’s served me really well but it’s also time to put that away and be able to still use the 30 years that I’ve been on WWE TV and still do things like that.
"It was fun to get out there and….as great as the character was and everything that we got to do, you’re kind of boxed into what I could and couldn’t do, right? So, now that it’s off, this is what’s left."
