Title To Be Retired On Next Week's AEW Dynamite?

AEW Dynamite could see a longstanding title retired

Whilst some championships in wrestling are eternal, some have a shelf life, and we’ve seen myriad titles retired, dissolved, and outright ignored over the years across multiple promotions.

For All Elite Wrestling, it seems as though a title could be set for the retirement home, with FTW Champion Jack Perry promising to retire the unsanctioned belt on the August 23 edition of AEW Dynamite.

Perry made the declaration on the August 16 Fight for the Fallen special of Dynamite, and if successful it’ll mark the second time the championship will be deactivated, with the title originally defended in ECW from May 1998 until Taz unified the belt with the ECW World Championship at Living Dangerously in March 1999.

The belt was brought out of retirement by Taz in 2020, with the ‘Human Suplex Machine’ awarding it to Brian Cage when Jon Moxley was unable to defend the AEW World Championship against ‘The Machine’.

There have been four FTW Champions in AEW, with Cage, Ricky Starks, and HOOK holding the title. HOOK lost the title to Jack Perry in July 2023.
