AEW took over the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Brisbane, Australia for a special edition of Grand Slam yesterday. The main event of the night saw the homecoming of ‘Timeless’ Toni Storm, returning to the country she grew up in to challenge for the AEW World Women’s Championship against long-time rival and former ally, Mariah May.
After a night which saw the likes of other local stars such as Kyle Fletcher, Harley Cameron and Buddy Matthews lose their respective matches, Storm managed to send the crowd home happy by defeating Mariah May to become the new AEW Women’s World Champion for a record fourth time.
May and Storm went back and forth in a hard-hitting title match that saw several near-falls and big moves. At the final portion of the bout, May hit her own version of the Storm Zero on the challenger, though Storm managed to fight back and role up May in a cradle, pinning her and winning the title, bringing a huge reaction from the audience. They chanted “You deserve it!” to the new champion as she celebrated.
