While numerous talents have gone the other way, Cody Rhodes became the first major talent to jump ship from All Elite Wrestling to WWE at WrestleMania 38, returning to the company as Seth Rollins' opponent at The Showcase Of The Immortals.

Cody had been a featured performer in AEW since he founded the company with Tony Khan, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega, and wife Brandi Rhodes in 2019 but he and Brandi departed the company in February of 2022 after they were unable to come to terms on new deals.

Speaking about Cody's decision to leave AEW, Tony Khan admitted to ESPN he was not surprised by The American Nightmare's return to WWE.

"No. It's a binary decision. He wasn't going to be here and based on the conversations we were having -- he never outright told me -- but it was obvious that was what was happening," Khan said.

Khan also noted he appreciates what Cody did in AEW and wishes him the best in WWE, mentioning they "parted on very good terms."
