Trick Williams Wins North American Championship At NXT No Mercy

NXT No Mercy was a big night for the developmental brand, as multiple title changes took place on the show. It wasn’t just the NXT Championship that ended the night with a different titleholder, but the NXT North American Title is also now draped upon a new shoulder.
Dominik Mysterio was supposed to take on Mustafa Ali originally for the NXT North American Championship at NXT No Mercy, but following Ali’s release from WWE, plans had to be changed. Trick Williams stood in at the last minute as a replacement after earning a shot last Tuesday on NXT, and pulled off a massive victory over the Judgment Day member.
Special Guest Referee Dragon Lee counted the pinfall after some referee bumps and shenanigans, putting an end to Mysterio’s reign at 74 days, after he pulled off a shock win over Wes Lee in July. The latter stages of the night saw Williams’ partner Carmelo Hayes eyeing up the North American Title after having lost the NXT Championship in the main event to Ilja Dragunov.
