WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque and former WWE CEO Stephanie McMahon are allegedly aware of how excessive adverts during WWE events have become, having been told directly by O'Shea Jackson Jr.
Jackson Jr. appeared on the Ariel Helwani Show and revealed he addressed the over-saturation of commercials with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon after filming an episode of Stephanie's What's Your Story? podcast.
"I told this to Triple H and Stephanie when I did Stephanie's show. I told them the ads and the timing of them are horrendous. This was like five, six months ago or something crazy like that when I went to do Stephanie McMahon's pod. Afterwards, because I did it at WWE headquarters, Triple H comes down, we're all talking, and I brought up my transgressions. And I was like, 'Dude, the ads are crazy. Like, it's almost unwatchable.' And, like, they know. It's just about, they’re working on placement of them maybe," Jackson said.
"I get it, Roman Reigns' entrance is seven minutes long, but that doesn't mean that's the time to throw the ads in. I should not - there should never be a moment where I miss IYO SKY's entrance because 'we are back from commercial break.' It's a level of respect for them. It's fine in the middle of a match, but at least picture-in-picture me."
The amount of commercials during WWE events has increased dramatically since the UFC-WWE merger under TKO Group Holdings in September 2023. The excessive number of commercials reached a new nadir at WrestleMania 42 when there were 1 hour 27 minutes of ads across both nights of WrestleMania, which included 52 minutes of commercials on night one and 35 minutes on night two. This accounted for 19.61 per cent of WrestleMania's total runtime.
Such were the number of ads at WrestleMania 42 that a common joke on social media was the preview of Netflix's Hulk Hogan: Real American docuseries was being interrupted by the pro wrestling event.
The balance between match times and ads at WrestleMania reportedly caused frustration amongst WWE talents, and TKO President Mark Shapiro has since addressed concerns about the commercials.
