WWE Chief Content Officer Paul "Triple H" Levesque has revealed he will consider WrestleMania 42 to be mostly successful if WWE's hardcore fans are happy with the show and the company attracts new or lapsed fans to the product through the first hour of each night airing on ESPN platforms.
"At the end of Sunday night, I've done a good job if on Saturday and Sunday our most ardent fans think that was amazing and fans that were sampling it for the first time, and I weigh this in equal measures because on night one the first hour of the show will be on ESPN2. On Sunday night, the first hour of the show will be on ESPN1, and then, of course, everything else will be on ESPN Unlimited," Triple H told Joe Tessitore in an interview for WWE.
"That gives us this incredible opportunity between ESPN2 and 1 on Saturday and Sunday to hit a large group of people that maybe have never watched before or it has been a long time since they watched. This is our opportunity to show them this is WWE. I will mostly feel successful if there are a lot of those people that went, 'Holy sh*t. That's not what I remember wrestling to be. I've got to tune in now.' 'I've got to start watching.' 'I've got to get ESPN Unlimited, I've got to finish this show.' 'I've got to start watching this on a regular basis because this is a spectacle, this is an energy level, this is storyline, and drama, and excitement, and energy that I can't get anywhere else.' If we can deliver that to both sets of people equally, then we win."
WrestleMania 42 will take place on Saturday, April 18 and Sunday, April 19 from Las Vegas' Allegiant Stadium.
The first hour of WrestleMania Saturday will air on ESPN2 with IShowSpeed, Logan Paul & Austin Theory vs. The Usos & LA Knight and Drew McIntyre vs. Jacob Fatu in an Unsanctioned Match. The first hour of WrestleMania Sunday on ESPN will feature Brock Lesnar vs. Oba Femi and the Ladder Match for the Intercontinental Championship. The remainder of WrestleMania will air on ESPN Unlimited in the United States, and the entirety of WrestleMania 42 will air on Netflix internationally.
The buzz around WrestleMania 42 is lower than in recent years, however, with there having been a backlash to Pat McAfee's insertion into the Undisputed WWE Title programme between Cody Rhodes and Randy Orton, while the price of WrestleMania 42 tickets has been a major topic of conversation, with sales lagging behind last year's WrestleMania 41.
