Update On Circumstances Behind Zelina Vega's WWE Release

Announcement of her release came Friday evening...

As announced earlier tonight, Zelina Vega was released from WWE. Minutes before her release was confirmed, Vega put out a tweet declaring her support for unions.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider has since published a report on the circumstances behind Vega's release, which she reportedly learned of late Friday afternoon.

The report goes on to state that Vega had been very vocal about maintaining her Twitch account, in light of WWE's recent edict ordering talents to disassociate themselves from third-party media platforms. Johnson cites "multiple WWE sources" in saying that Vega's release was related to the edict, with some wondering if her release was done to "send a message" to talents in a similar situation, in an attempt to get them to comply with the company order.

Vega's release was not related to her tweet, as though it was sent minutes before her release was announced, she already knew of her termination before she tweeted her pro-unionization message.

Her release includes the traditional 90-day "non-compete" clause, making her unable to appear for televised wrestling promotions through sometime in mid-February 2021.
