Update On Goldberg Possibly Showing Up At AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door

Could Goldberg show up at AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door?

Forbidden Door season is a chance for wrestling fans to do some of their best fantasy booking and hope their wildest grappling fantasy match-ups become true. But are some dream match scenarios a step too far?

One name who has been rumoured for an unthinkable appearance at the AEW vs. NJPW super-show is that of Bill Goldberg, with some speculating the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion could join Sting and Darby Allin in taking on Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki in six-man tag action.

Sting and Darby will reveal the identity of their partner on the June 24 edition of AEW Collision, and when asked about the possibility of Goldberg stepping through the proverbial ‘forbidden door’, AEW President Tony Khan said the following on the pre-PPV media call:

"I have had nice conversations with Bill about being involved with AEW at times. It's a good thought. I don't know if it would be the perfect fit for who Sting and Darby are going to bring to Collision this weekend, but I also want to leave all the doors open for them and their partner for Forbidden Door. It would ideally be somebody that would step in and be a good fit for the Forbidden Door show. Bill Goldberg is a legend in pro wrestling, one of the biggest names in the sport, and I have certainly had nice conversations with him at times. As for who Sting and Darby bring in this weekend, there have been a lot of guesses, and a lot of them have been more in line with New Japan Pro-Wrestling's biggest names. Goldberg has gone over and competed in New Japan too. I've had nice talks with Bill about doing things with AEW, and that's probably all I can say," Khan said.

Goldberg wrestled a handful of matches in Japan for HUSTLE and All Japan in the early 2000s, and was rumoured to have been close to signing with NJPW on two separate occasions in his career.
