In recent weeks, various reports have emerged regarding TBS Champion Mercedes Moné’s first loss in AEW. There were suggestions that Moné was originally supposed to lose to ROH Women’s World Champion Athena when they battled on AEW Dynamite in recent months in the Owen Hart Cup, with Moné being open to losing this match in order to set up a rematch for the AEW All In Texas 2025 PPV.
Conflicting reports then emerged that this was never the plan in the first place, as Moné vs. AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm has been the plan for All In Texas 2025 for more than a year. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has provided some more clarity on the situation.
He reveals that Moné was in fact open to putting Athena over in AEW, though there were no plans for them to have a match at All In 2025. There was also recent talk over Mariah May originally having plans for AEW All In Texas prior to her exit from the company, though Meltzer has confirmed other reports that May’s plans were not set to impact the AEW Women’s World Title scene.
