Reports at the start of 2026 suggested WWE were interested in signing David Finlay, with the fourth-generation star’s New Japan Pro-Wrestling deal nearing its expiration
Finlay was one of several names revealed to be approaching to end of their deal as the new year came into view, with New Japan deals traditionally ending in January. In an update on Fightful Select, it has been suggested that WWE and Finlay have had contact, but there has apparently been no noise about the situation ‘in weeks’.
The final Bullet Club leader before the stable’s dissolution, Finlay is a former two-time IWGP Global Heavyweight Champion, one-time NEVER Openweight Champion, one-time IWGP Tag Team Champion and 2019 World Tag League winner with Juice Robinson, and one-time NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Champion with Ricochet and Satoshi Kojima. Finlay also won the 2025 New Japan Cup.
Part of NJPW since 2015, Finlay’s father is former WWE and WCW singles star ‘Fit’ Finlay, with the legendary ‘Belfast Bruiser’ having worked backstage with WWE since 2012. David Finlay’s brother Uriah Connors currently competes in WWE as part of NXT.
