Update On WWE's Plans For Gable Steveson

Latest on WWE's plans for Gable Steveson

Gable Steveson's development as a WWE wrestler has moved to the main roster in recent weeks but don't expect the Olympic gold medallist to wrestle on TV in the very near future.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Gable Steveson is not in the mix to wrestle in the men's Royal Rumble on the January 27 pay-per-view and his recent dark matches on SmackDown are in no way related to any plans for him to work the Rumble. Steveson has wrestled in dark matches on Friday Night SmackDown since the beginning of 2024. He defeated Cedric Alexander as a babyface on January 5 and January 12 before Steveson worked as a heel against Cameron Grimes on January 19.

PWInsider noted WWE have booked Steveson in dark matches as the company want him to "have more reps in front of live crowds." Steveson has had 15 matches in total since his in-ring debut at NXT Great American Bash 2023, primarily at NXT live events.

While his WWE development continues, Steveson will not be making a return to amateur wrestling after WWE blocked him from competing again for the Minnesota Gophers.
