Hirooki Goto was officially pulled from New Japan Pro-Wrestling's G1 Climax 35 tournament over the weekend due to a right elbow injury the 46-year-old has been dealing with since he dropped the IWGP World Heavyweight Title to Zack Sabre Jr. at Tanahashi Jam.
The New Japan Soul tour concluded on Sunday, July 6 and Taichi won a gauntlet to earn Goto's spot in the A block of the G1 Climax. The match - which featured the losers of the G1 play-in matches - saw Chase Owens beat Satoshi Kojima before Taichi eliminated Owens. Taichi then overcame his tag team partner, Tomohiro Ishii, to advance to the G1.
NJPW G1 Climax 35 will get underway on Saturday, July 19. The winners of the two 10-man blocks will advance to the semi-finals, while the second and third place finishers will face off in play-off matches to determine the remaining participants in the final four. The final of the G1 will take place on August 17.
