The United States government filed their opposition to Shawn Chan's request to be released from jail ahead of his trial. Chan - the alleged stalker of Liv Morgan - is awaiting trial on charges of one count of interstate domestic violence. The opposition was filed on September 2.

Chan filed a motion on August 20 asking the court to reconsider him being held without bail through the trial, with Chan's attorneys claiming they have secured a Salvation Army location for him to stay at until the trial begins. Chan remains incarcerated in Hernando County, Florida.

The prosecutors for the United States government in their motion on September 2 noted Shawn Chan was a "danger to the community, a serious risk of flight, and there are no conditions of release that will reasonably assure Chan's appearance at further proceedings of this case."

It was also argued that a bed for Chan at a local Salvation Army establishment did not meet the legal requirement for Chan's incarceration status to be reconsidered. Prosecutors also stated that Chan could attempt to visit Liv Morgan's home again if he is released, and he is currently being evaluated to determine his competency.

Shawn Chan - a Canadian citizen - flew from Scarborough, Ontario to Orlando, Florida on May 26, 2025 and told customs he would be staying at the WWE Performance Center. A few days later, Chan travelled for several hours to Liv Morgan's home and attempted to gain access to the house, trying the door handle and looking for a spare key. Chan then waited at the premises for two hours before leaving a note and leaving.

Chan's note read, in part: "It's me Shawn the guy you all hang out with on [name of gaming platform] online. You've been trying to contact me, or should I say reach out to me when I'm absent from that game. So who's the stalker huh?!  I NEVER said and did anything bad for over 10 years, yet you all dared hating me for no reason. I came here to pay just a friendly visit, nothing more. Yet, I'm the one who looks like a stalker thx to all of you. And you all think I'm going to have empathy, sympathy and care about any of you anymore? I will start talking and doing whatever I want despite all your shoosh finger faces that you all make.  Yea, I just wanted to let you know that I was here."

The FBI arrested Chan on June 3 outside of the WWE Performance Center. He was indicted on June 25 and faces up to five years in prison.
