Further details have emerged regarding Bray Wyatt's final few months and eventual departure from WWE, with it being reported that Vince McMahon developed a dislike for Wyatt due to his criticisms of the WWE creative team and process.

Wyatt was released by WWE in late July 2021 amid speculation regarding an imminent comeback on television. Windham Rotunda, in his Fiend persona, last competed for the promotion at WrestleMania 37 and made his final television appearance a day later on Raw.

According to Fightful Select, numerous individuals have claimed Wyatt would be outspoken backstage when he felt WWE creative was bad, something that many felt resulted in McMahon eventually not liking the former WWE Champion.

It is noted that the plans around Wyatt's WrestleMania 37 match with Randy Orton, in which Orton walked out as winner, were changed just a couple of days prior - something that Wyatt, Orton and other members of the locker-room disagreed with. It is also noted that there was 'never a true creative endgame for the story' between Orton and Wyatt, despite the angle running for a number of months.

Orton was also reportedly scheduled to be taking some time off after WrestleMania 37, something that changed late on with the result of his match with Wyatt being altered. It ended up being Bray who would be absent from WWE television for some time instead.

In terms of Wyatt's release, talent was informed that his departure was a 'budget cut' decision but it is uncertain as to whether this is the reason actually given to the man himself. It is reported that this explanation created huge frustration through the roster and other employees, who feel there is more to the story given Wyatt's ability to make money for WWE as a popular superstar and with high merchandise sales.

Rotunda's non-compete with WWE expired at the end of October, leaving the former Bray Wyatt free to pursue other ventures.
