Welsh Government Paid £2 Million To Bring WWE Clash At The Castle To Cardiff

WWE received a significant chunk of change for holding Clash at the Castle at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Wales. 

A press release from the Welsh Government revealed that Clash at the Castle "delivered a massive 10:1 return on investment by channelling £21.8 million back into the Welsh economy." This suggests the government paid approximately £2.18 million to bring WWE to Cardiff, estimated to be just short of $3 million. 

For comparison, WWE received $1.5 million in cash and an additional $300,000 in value from the local government for running SmackDown and Backlash in San Juan, Puerto Rico earlier this year.

The economic impact study for Clash at the Castle previously noted that three-quarters of the 60,000 who attended Clash at the Castle travelled to Cardiff from outside of Wales. WWE's own filings also revealed last year the company earned around $8 million in revenue from Clash at the Castle.

Clash at the Castle was WWE's first major show in the United Kingdom since SummerSlam 1992 and their first UK pay-per-view since 2003. The event was headlined by an Undisputed WWE Universal Title match between Roman Reigns and Drew McIntyre.
