After six years with WWE, Ava (real name Simone Johnson) announced on Friday, January 30 that she had decided not to renew her contract with the company and last week's NXT was her final televised appearance.
Further details about Ava's decision have since been revealed, with Dave Meltzer reporting on Wrestling Observer Radio that the 24-year-old simply didn't want to work in pro wrestling anymore.
"I've talked to and heard from several people and the general thing was just she didn't want to do it anymore. There was no compelling reason. It was just one of those things where her parents own a studio and they thought that she's probably going to end up working there. She doesn't have to do it," Meltzer said.
Another factor may have also been that Ava's partner Tatyanna Dumas has been fired by WWE.
"One person had contacted me and mentioned Tatyanna Dumas, who is her girlfriend, was cut, which we didn't hear just a couple of weeks ago. They weren't quite saying that's why she quit but it was something that people put one and one together that maybe that had something to do with it. Maybe it didn't, I don't know....It was her decision, it's not like they were going to get rid of her or anything like that," Meltzer added.
BodySlam noted that WWE actually offered Ava a pay increase as part of a new deal, but she turned it down and simply decided it was time to leave the organisation.
Ava has been vocal on social media since her release, tweeting: "And now that i can say this with my full chest, [middle finger emoji] ice and that entire administration." She has since deleted her X/Twitter account.
