Why Sting Chose The Young Bucks For His AEW Retirement Match

Why Sting chose The Young Bucks revealed

The match has yet to be made official but The Young Bucks will be Sting's opponents for his retirement match at AEW Revolution on March 3 in the Greensboro Coliseum. The match was heavily teased to close out the January 10 'Homecoming' edition of AEW Dynamite where Matt and Nick Jackson made their returns with a new look.

Reports have indicated that Sting himself had a major say in who he would face for his retirement match and plans for Sting & Darby Allin vs. The Young Bucks had been in the works for several weeks.

Dave Meltzer has since reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Tony Khan gave Sting the option to choose his opponents, which included pretty much anyone in professional wrestling the promotion could conceivably bring in, including talent from outside All Elite Wrestling. Sting ultimately chose The Young Bucks as he loved the match they did together at Forbidden Door 2022 of the Dudes with Attitudes (Sting, Darby Allin, & Shingo Takagi) vs. Bullet Club (The Young Bucks & El Phantasmo).

The Young Bucks were originally set to spend more time off TV, having gone on hiatus following Full Gear 2023. Sting asked them to be part of his retirement match, though, and Matt and Nick Jackson, of course, weren't going to turn that down.
