Why WWE Continues To Use Goldberg In 2021

Goldberg returned to WWE on Monday’s RAW

Bill Goldberg. The mere mention of his name conjures up images of the undefeated streak in WCW, his wars with Triple H in WWE, and also makes many fans in 2021 scream with rage.

Although Goldberg’s return run with Brock Lesnar in 2016 was warmly greeted by hardcore wrestling fans, his subsequent returns have had diminished reactions, with many hardcore fans online vocally expressing their displeasure at Goldberg’s many returns, usually straight into the World Title scene.

But, according to Mat Men’s Andrew Zarian, WWE brings Goldberg back for an obvious reason; he’s still a draw.

Zarian said in a talk with his source at WWE, the fed ‘needs’ casual fans, and whilst the hardcore fans on the internet are more vocal, they are a minority in the grand scheme of things. So while you or I may not be thrilled with Goldberg’s latest return, the casual fans eat it up.

Indeed, Goldberg’s return segment with Bobby Lashley already has 1.5million views on WWE’s YouTube channel, trailing only John Cena’s return promo for videos released from Raw. With online views and clicks an important indicator of fan interest, Goldberg's latest return will already be seen as a hit.
