Will Ospreay To Defend 'Real' IWGP World Heavyweight Title On NJPW Strong

Ospreay will defend his title

New Japan Pro-Wrestling will air more matches from the promotion's Autumn Attack tapings on the October 16 edition of NJPW Strong.

In the main event, Will Ospreay will defend the 'real' IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Karl Fredericks. The match was set up during Ospreay's return at Resurgence in August when he called out several members of the LA Dojo, which led to him being chased off by Fredericks, Clark Connors and TJP.

Ospreay has proclaimed himself as the 'real' IWGP World Heavyweight Champion since he was stripped of the gold in May. Shingo Takagi is the officially recognised world champion and Ospreay has refused to wrestle in Japan until Shingo is declared an interim champion.

Several other matches were also set for Saturday's edition of Strong. The card is as follows:

  • Will Ospreay (c) vs. Karl Fredericks - Ospreay's IWGP World Heavyweight Championship
  • Mega Coaches vs. West Coast Wrecking Crew
  • TJP, Clark Connors, Lio Rush & Juice Robinson vs. Taiji Ishimori, El Phantasmo, Chris Bey & Hikuleo
  • Alex Coughlin vs. Chris Dickinson - Alex Coughlin Open Challenge Series
