WWE Backlash 2024 Sets Record For Biggest Arena Gate In Company History

Biggest gate for a WWE arena show with Backlash 2024

WWE broke another record in 2024 with Backlash. The first WWE pay-per-view since WrestleMania 40 emanated from the LDLC Arena in Lyon, France on Saturday, May 4.

With an official attendance of 11,682, WWE announced during the show that Backlash 2024 was the largest gate for an arena show in WWE history. WWE did not announce the gate for Backlash but the previous record was held by Money in the Bank 2023 from London, England which had a gate of $3.32 million.

Adjusted for inflation, the record is believed to be held by WrestleMania 5, according to Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics. The show headlined by Hulk Hogan vs. Randy Savage for the WWE Championship from Atlantic City's Trump Plaza had a gate of $1.63 million. Adjusted for inflation, this is around $4 million in today's money.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer noted the gate record was set as ticket prices were the highest for any arena show in WWE history with the average ticket price sitting around $300.

The fans who paid so much were electric throughout Backlash, providing a fun night of professional wrestling.
